3 Signs You Need to Make a Call for Furnace Repair

Furnace Repair

The cold winter months are quickly approaching – how is your furnace holding up? Now is the time when most homeowners start to notice any issues their heating system might have developed. Here are 3 signs your home’s heating system might need furnace repair or furnace maintenance!

1. Your furnace is making some awful noises.

No furnace is going to be 100% quiet. More than likely, you’re used to the sounds it makes when it starts up or cools down, but odd noises, such as whining, banging, or groaning, are a sign you need furnace service. There might be an ignition problem, a loose belt, or another failing component.

Likewise, if your furnace is having difficulty coming on and/or staying on, you’ll more than likely need furnace service. There may be a problem with the thermostat, a burned out pilot, or a faulty fan motor.

2. The air in your home is stuffy and/or is hard to breathe.

Family members who have allergies, asthma, or other difficulties breathing will most certainly notice that you need furnace repair before anyone else does! A furnace that is not functioning up to par will place mold, dust, and other irritants into the air that circulate throughout your whole home, which exacerbates the severity and frequency of a family member’s breathing difficulties.

On a side note, yearly furnace maintenance will help prevent minor problems from becoming major ones.

3. Your electric bills are abnormally high.

Your home’s energy costs are going to go up and down throughout the year, but if you notice that your energy bills are much higher than what you’re use to paying, this is generally a big hint that something has gone wrong with your furnace. It is recommended that you call a heating and cooling company to determine if your need furnace repair or simply furnace maintenance.

The dead of winter is not the time you want to be worrying about a broken down furnace.  If you’ve noticed any of the signs we’ve talked about, contact Baltimore Heating & Cooling today!
